    ***This course is part of CORE Training Day 3.


    Overview: The Back Safety Awareness course is knowledge and performance-based training that is designed to provide employee training and education on proper back care and proper lifting techniques for overall back safety.

    Course Length:  2hrs | CFR Reference: OSHA Act sec (5) | Course Required By: OSHA

    Course Objectives:  Upon completion of the Back Safety Awareness course, the student will be familiar with:
    • The back and how it functions in simple terms

    • Ergonomics

    • Body mechanics, posture and habits that can lead to back injuries

    • Incorporating warm up and stretching exercises into work and home habits

    • Best practices that will help prevent back injuries
    Prerequisite: None.

    Written Exam: Written and hands-on competency will be evaluated at the end of each course. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course. Student shall be required to demonstrate proper lifting techniques.

    Retraining: None specified, but SMS would recommend an annual refresher.
