Cholesterol screening is considered to be a routine part of preventative health care due to high cholesterol levels being associated with hardening of the arteries, heart disease, and heart attacks.
It is recommended that all healthy adults have a test done at least once every five years, and more often for people who have a history of elevated levels, family history of heart disease, or high blood pressure.
Our cholesterol screening tests HDL levels (“good cholesterol”), LDL levels (“bad cholesterol”), and triglyceride levels. The test involves a small finger stick during which a blood sample is obtained and placed on the testing panel.
The test takes about five minutes to complete and a printout with all of the levels is given to the donor. This printout can be taken to the donor’s personal physician for follow-up and lifestyle change recommendations.
