Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response; Awareness Level (HAZMAT) 4hr Overview: The Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Awareness course provides training and education to employees who participate, or are expected to participate, in emergency response operations for releases or threats of releases of hazardous substances without regard to hazard location or their hazard response level. First responders at the awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and who have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release. They would take no further action beyond notifying the authorities of the release. Written Exam: Written and hands-on competency will be evaluated at the end of each course. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course. Students will be responsible for the recognition of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) incidents and activation of the emergency response plan. Retraining: Site-specific. Students will be required to annually refresh training with 8hrs of sufficient content and duration to maintain their competencies.
