Training Powered by Polaris Learning

Safety Management Systems has partnered with Scotland-based Polaris Learning to deliver a range of training courses to onshore and offshore workers in the US oil & gas industry. Polaris Learning is supported by Scottish Development International (SDI).

The partnership with Polaris Learning will allow students in the United States to complete qualifications remotely at the click of a button, through Polaris Learning's online and blended learning portal, PLUS. Polaris Learning staff will provide additional support through webinars, video conferencing and email.

Established in 1996, Polaris Learning works closely with companies in the oil & gas, food and drink, renewables, and manufacturing industries to provide competency management services as well as an extensive range of accredited training and qualification programmes from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Courses offered include:

  • SQA L&D9DI - Online Assessor Qualification: This course is suitable for people who assess the competence of individuals within a competency-based assessment system. The assessor must have the opportunity to assess a minimum of two individuals
against two areas of competence and produce evidence of their competence against company or national standards.
  • ILM Leadership & Management Essentials: For supervisors and team leaders who are new to a leadership role, or who have been in the role to build an effective leadership style. Be recognized as a qualified manager; meet the ILM standard and know you have achieved the best; get the most out of your managers; and have a happier and more motivated workforce through managers leading effectively.
  • SQA L&D11 - Online Internal Verifier: This course is suitable for people who are responsible for internally verifying the quality of assessment undertaken within their organization. The verifier must have the opportunity to work with and support a
minimum of two assessors and a minimum of two individuals per assessor. The verifier will also need to provide evidence of supporting their assessors and reviewing the quality of assessments against company or national standards.
