Safety Management Systems, LLC (SMS), a division of Acadian, has again been named to the prestigious Louisiana State University’s LSU 100 list, which recognizes and celebrates the 100 fastest-growing LSU-owned or LSU-led businesses in the world. The LSU 100 was created by the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute to offer encouragement, education, networking and assistance to entrepreneurially minded students, faculty and businesses.

SMS is one of the largest providers of health, safety, environmental, medical and security services for the energy industry, and is headquartered in Lafayette, Louisiana.

SMS President Scott Domingue is a 1996 LSU graduate with a degree in business administration. Domingue began his career at Acadian in 1988 and worked his way through the ranks of various divisions of management. After transitioning to SMS, he worked as a project development supervisor, sales and marketing manager, and vice president before being named president in 2010.

Domingue also serves on the board of directors for the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, the Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition and the United Way of Acadiana. He is a graduate of Leadership Louisiana, and was named one of the Daily Advertiser’s Top 20 Under 40.

SMS is a member of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, the Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition, Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association and numerous other associations, including the International Association of Drilling Contractors, the National Safety Council, Safe Gulf, Safe Land USA and the National Fire Protection Agency.

In 2014, SMS partnered with Excelerant, one of the nation’s top leadership development companies and a fellow 2014 LSU 100 business, to create the Energy Leadership Academy. The Academy is designed for future leaders of the oil and gas industry. One program is designed for aspiring leaders who do not yet have direct reports, and another program is for leaders who are currently in a leadership role and have less than five years of leadership experience.

“The up-and-coming generations of the energy industry are willing and eager to learn,” Domingue said. “Through volunteer organizations, such as Young Professionals of LAGCOE, it is very apparent they have one common goal – to see the energy industry grow and prosper after their successors retire. Thanks to our partnership with Excelerant and the Energy Leadership Academy, we will give young professionals the tools needed to be the best in their field.”

SMS will be honored among fellow LSU 100 businesses at an honoree reception and awards luncheon Oct. 23-24, 2014. The complete list of 2014 honorees is available at lsu100.com.
