Firefighting - Basic (STCW) USCG Part of the STCW-95 Program Overview: Seafarers designated to participate in firefighting operations will be given 16 hours of training in techniques for fighting fires. Course Length: 16 hours Course Objectives: Upon completion of Section A-VI/1-2, Basic Fire Fighting, the student will be able to:
CFR Reference: Successful completion of this course will satisfy: (a) The training requirements of 46 CFR 10.205 (I)(2) and Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code; and (b) the basic fire fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 10.205 (g) and 10.401 (g)(1) for a license; and (c) the fire fighting training requirements of 46 CFR 13.113(d)(2)(i)(A) or (B), 13.201 (e), 13.301 (e), 13,401 (d), or 13.501 (e) for any tankerman endorsement. Course Required By: Unites States Coast Guard for STCW-95 Endorsement Prerequisites: These courses are intended as basic training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship as part of the ship's complement with designated safety duties in operation of the ship. There are no particular educational requirements. All trainees must be certified by a doctor to be in good health. Written Exam: A minimum written test score of 70% is required. Students that fail the test will be remediated and allowed 1 retest. A second failure requires repeating the course before they may test again. Students must satisfactorily perform hands-on evolutions as required by US Coast Guard assessments. Retraining: Student is responsible for retraining every five years.
