Surface Water Rescue

 

Overview

The Surface Water Rescue course is designed to develop and enhance the delegate’s skills as a rescuer. This program is delivered both in the classroom and our Sea Survival center. This course is designed to introduce responders to water rescue at the First Responder level.

Course Objectives

The overall objective of this course is to enhance the safety of the first responders involved in water rescue incidents. This is accomplished by increasing knowledge of the hazards of water rescue and the techniques and equipment needed to manage those hazards. At the completion of this course the student shall have:

  • An awareness of the risks in water incidents.
  • The ability to recognize hazards at water incidents.
  • The ability to identify local water rescue resources.
  • Knowledge of basic shore based rescue techniques.
  • Knowledge of water rescue equipment.
  • An awareness of the risks in water incidents.

Course Length: 4 to 6 hours

Course Structure: Course consists of 2 units of instruction covering the following subjects:

Unit 1

  • Registration, Introduction and Overview
  • Introduction to Water Rescue
  • Water Hazards & the Dynamics of Moving Water
  • Medical Considerations for Water Rescue

Unit 2

  • Water Rescue Equipment, Techniques and Incident Management
  • Self-Rescue & PPE
  • Shore Based and Advanced Rescue Techniques
  • Water Rescue Incident Management
