Jason Willingham is a QHSE Coordinator and was nominated as an SMS Standout by Field Support Supervisor, Scott Henry. Jason is being recognized for his excellent work performance and quality of work.
Scott exclaimed, “Mr. Willingham recently served as call taker and triage for Dr. Burnell and Dr. Thibodeaux while Dr. Thibodeaux was out of the country. This meant that Jason was responsible for all medical care within the Gulf of Mexico, covering the efforts of all of SMS’ medical field employees. While responding to this task, Mr. Willingham also took the time to make sure that he followed up on and connected with several medics to document the closure of cases and provide feedback for Dr. Thibodeaux and Dr. Burnell, in addition to his regular duties. He deserves a hardy WELL DONE and thank you.”

We asked Jason to give us an idea of what a day in his life looks like.
AA: Describe a typical day at work.
JW: I spend the majority of my time on remote Oil and Gas locations in the Gulf of Mexico and land-based locations performing Remote Paramedic Quality Audits. However, I do maintain an office at the North University Avenue campus. I assist in all aspects of Safety Management Systems (SMS) internal Quality Management System (QMS) including audit planning, execution, follow up, and re-audit of current remote Paramedic staff. I am heavily involved with the education of our remote Paramedic staff through orientation and yearly educational opportunities afforded to our peers.
AA: What was the best vacation you have ever taken?
JW: Walt Disney World for both of my children’s respective first time.
AA: Describe yourself in one sentence.
JW: I am married and have a daughter and a son.
AA: What is your favorite thing about your job?
JW: The ability to support my peers.
AA: What food could you live on for a month?
JW: Rice and gravy.
AA: Do you have a side hustle, hobby or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?
JW: I enjoy expanding my culinary skills, libations, cigars and good conversation.
AA: How do you stay motivated at work?
JW: Looking forward and trying to anticipate my colleague’s situations that may need resolution and areas that clinical excellence can be reinforced.
AA: What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?
JW: Starting my current role nearly 12 years ago.

JW: The birth of my children.
AA: What would be your advice for future [safety professional]?
JW: Never stop reaching for more educational opportunities.

AA: Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?
JW: X-ray vision would make diagnoses really interesting.
AA: What was the best advice you were ever given?
JW: Come to work, check your truck, run your calls, write your tickets, clean the toilets, and go home (a paramedic mentor who showed me the ropes as a new paramedic).
