MEDIC First Aid® – BasicPlus CPR/AED

Overview

MEDIC First Aid® BasicPlus is a combined adult CPR, AED and first aid training program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees on how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work. This program conforms to the 2020 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC and the 2020 AHA and ARC Guidelines Update for First Aid.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the MEDIC First Aid® – BasicPlus course, the trainee will be familiar with basic First Aid/CPR skills as provided in the EMP of America Basic Skills Guidebook. Participants will understand rules and receive instruction and testing on the following elements:

• Removal of contaminated gloves
• External chest compressions  
• Rescue breaths using a CPR mask or shield
• Primary assessment for an unresponsive person
• CPR as a single provider
• Primary assessment for a responsive person
• Control of severe bleeding
• Stabilization of a suspected head, neck, or back injury
• Stabilization of a swollen, painful, deformed limb
• Take a SAMPLE patient history

Course Length: 4 hrs

Intended audience
Occupational first aid providers who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers

Successful completion (certification) 

• Written evaluation: Required when specified by organizational, local, or state regulation.
• Performance evaluation: All students must perform the required skills competently without assistance.
