We asked Ryan to tell us about his typical day at work.
A.A. Describe a typical day at work.
R.M. A typical day involves driving to the various job sites; drilling Rigs/Fracs/Workover rigs. Once at the sites, I do safety audits and site safety visits. Additionally, I run a wide variety of EMS related calls. Since COVID-19, the call volume has increased significantly.
A.A. What was the best vacation you have ever taken?
R.M. A family cruise to Aruba.
A.A. Describe yourself in one sentence.
R.M. A loyal, hard-working, individual who likes to help out in any way possible.
A.A. What is your favorite thing about your job?
R.M. All the great individuals that I work with.
A.A. What food could you live on for a month?
R.M. Coors light; is that a food?
A.A. Do you have a side hustle, hobby, or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?
R.M. I enjoy working in the yard and exercising. Also, I enjoy coaching my son in all his sports activities.
A.A. How do you stay motivated at work?
R.M. Remembering I am doing this to help keep everyone safe.
A.A. What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?
R.M. From the years at the Fire Department and my time with SMS, I would have to say it has always been helping people in their time of need.
A.A. Who would play you in a movie?
R.M. Chevy Chase
A.A. Tell us about a moment that changed your life.
R.M. Marrying my wife of 22 years.
A.A. What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?
R.M. Always be honest and respectful.
A.A. What is your favorite activity outside of work?
R.M. Anything that involves sports, grilling, and some adult refreshments.
A.A. Name one book that inspired you professionally.
R.M. The Bible
A.A. Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?
R.M. I wish I was able to speak multiple languages. I think that is a talent everyone could benefit from.
A.A. What was the best advice you were ever given?
R.M. To always be truthful.
A.A. Do you have a bucket list? What are the top 3 things on it?
R.M. Go to a football game at Notre Dame.
Go to Ireland.
Go to a Super Bowl, hopefully, one that involves the Indianapolis Colts!!!!
