The ninth ARD class held its graduation ceremony at the SMS auditorium in Lafayette. Designed by SMS, the Attraction, Recruitment and Deployment program is a six month internship which produces thoroughly prepared health, safety and environment technicians for the oil & gas industry. Students are taught, trained and mentored to identify unsafe acts and conditions while providing practical solutions for minimizing those risks.
The graduation ceremony follows the first phase-six weeks of job specific training in the construction, drilling and well service disciplines. The second phase of training, a four month mentoring stage, allows students to shadow an experienced and tenured SMS safety specialist in the field. In the last phase, the ARD student is assigned to their own location and an SMS field supervisor conducts quality compliance evaluations to gauge their proficiency.
Graduates were Thomas Guillory, Taylor Campbell, Jared Fuselier, William Lohrman, Chase Manning, Joshua Reno, Cory Newman, Jacob Comeaux, Lorri Hart, Blaine Williams, Jeremy Jinks, Riley Keith, and Matthew Sonnier.
“I feel very fortunate to work for SMS,” said Matthew Sonnier, ARD graduate. “It is very important in the oil & gas industry to make sure that the people, environment and assets are taking care of and protected.”
