Congratulations to SMS Standout Grant Guidry. He is an HSE Consultant and is being recognized for customer recognition, excellent performance, living the SMS and mission and quality of work. At the recent LOGA/LMOGA Annual Meeting, Fenstermaker Senior Vice President R.J. Boutte went out of his way to acknowledge how great of a job Grant does for his company. He has done fantastic work instilling a culture of safety at Fenstermaker, protecting both the employees and the company. Thank you, Grant, and keep up the good work!

We interviewed Grant to get a glimpse into his daily work schedule.

A.A. Describe a typical day at work.

G.G. My day starts by checking all my customer’s databases for compliance. Then, I look over the previous day to make sure nothing slipped through the cracks. By this time, the flood of opportunities to improve is rolling in for my customers.

 

A.A. What was the best vacation you have ever taken?

G.G. One whole week of kayaking on Little Lagoon/Ono Island.

 

A.A. Describe yourself in one sentence.

G.G.Tough appearance with a thin candy shell.

 

A.A. What is your favorite thing about your job?

G.G. I work for eight different customers and a day never goes by without something new coming up. Also, our consulting team is actually a team.

 

A.A. What food could you live on for a month?

G.G. Thai food.

 

A.A. Do you have a side hustle, hobby, or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?

G.G. Lafayette Paddle Club Special Olympics

 

A.A. How do you stay motivated at work?

G.G. Honestly, I do not know; motivation never seems to be a problem. 

 

A.A. What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?

G.G. Making Employee of the Year SMS 2019

 

A.A. Who would play you in a movie?

G.G. Blackburn, Blackhawk Down

 

A.A. Tell us about a moment that changed your life.

G.G. My Grandfather passing. This was the first time I ever felt loss.

 

A.A. What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?

G.G. Do not focus on one sector of the industry, safety is for all industries.

 

A.A. What is your favorite activity outside of work?

G.G. Kayaking, baseball games and car shows with my father.

 

A.A. Name one book that inspired you professionally.

G.G. Lord of the Clan (WarCraft #2) by Christie Golden.  It does not matter where you come from you can be successful.

 

A.A. Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?

G.G. Time travel to stop hipsters from being a thing.

 

A.A. What was the best advice you were ever given?

G.G. You can not fall off the floor.

 

A.A. Do you have a bucket list? What are the top 3 things on it?

G.G. Retire

        Not Travel

        Spend as much time in the water as possible

 

A.A. Do you have any pets? What are their names?
