Remote Paramedic Guy Frugé was recently nominated by Operations Supervisor Carl Dugas for an SMS Standout. Carl sited his reason for nominating Guy was because of customer recognition, excellent performance, quality of work and the fact that he lives the SMS mission.
How, exactly, does Guy accomplish all of this on any given day? We took a peek in a day in the life of Guy Fruge to give you an idea of how SMS employees are living by the core values every day. Guy lives his life to the fullest by doing what he loves, sailing, hanging out with his grandkids and partying with penguins.
AC: How do you get pumped for the day?
GF: Coffee, no one should start the day without it.
AC: Describe a typical day at work.
GF: It starts with morning meetings. I greet the flights as they come in and sick call for the day. In addition to that, we do water testing daily, assist with orientations and any other duties as needed.
AC: Tell us about the best vacation you’ve ever taken.
GF: I’d have to say it was first cruise my wife and I went on. That led to more cruises and her getting her SCUBA certification.
AC: How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
GF: “Don’t worry. Pop will fix it.” That’s what my grandkids say.
AC: What’s your favorite thing about your job as a remote paramedic?
GF: I get to actually practice medicine. Since my job revolves around someone else having a bad day, I get to be a part of making them feel better.
AC: What food could you live on for a month?
GF: Sushi
AC: What keeps you motivated at work?
GF: Looking forward to days off to spend time with my family.
AC: What has been the most fulfilling part of your career so far?
GF: When I look back at all the people I have helped, I’ve been able to make a difference in their lives. There’s nothing better than coming in to a bad situation and leaving a smile behind you.
AC: What would be your advice for future safety professionals?
GF: Do what you love, love what you do. Strive to make a difference.
AC: What do you do for fun?
GF: Chasing grandkids, sailing, riding my motorcycle.
AC: Do you have a bucket list? What are the top 3 things on it?
GF: Most of my bucket list has been done. Life is too short, live now before you get too old to move around.
AC: A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
GF: He sees me through the fence by the pool in my speedo and invites me to the party he’s having later.
