SMS Standout Joey Broussard

We would like to congratulate our SMS Standout, Joey Broussard. Joey is a recruiter and was nominated by Executive Assistant, Brittany Greco for living the SMS mission.  Brittany states, “During some recent inter-office moves, Joey truly embodied the SMS Core value of being a team player. Joey assisted several employees to move their office furniture into their new offices. Whenever someone would move Joey was always there to help. His help and great attitude were very much appreciated during the transition.” Joey, thank you for being a team player!

We spoke with Joey to get a glimpse into what a day in his shoes looks like.

AA: Describe a typical day at work.

JB: I start my day by checking in with operations for any openings. When I receive the staffing summary, I begin the process of finding the right candidate for the job.  Once the individual is selected, I begin the hiring process which includes a drug screen, background check, and physical.

 

AA: What was the best vacation you have ever taken?

JB: St. Lucia in 2016, I married my best friend. 

 

AA: Describe yourself in one sentence.

JB: I am quiet and a good listener. 

 

AA: What is your favorite thing about your job?

JB: Meeting new people while representing SMS and Acadian Companies. 

 

AA: What food could you live on for a month?

JB: Hawaiian bowl from Poké Geaux.

 

AA: Do you have a side hustle, hobby or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?

JB: Spending time with my family and riding my Harley-Davidson Street Glide. 

 

AA: How do you stay motivated at work?

JB: By staying positive. 

 

AA: What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?

JB:  Working on the ambulance and helping people in their time of need. 

 

AA: Who would play you in a movie?

JB: Tom Hanks  

 

AA: Tell us about a moment that changed your life.

JB:  The birth of my daughter, Kaitlyn. She was born prematurely at 29 weeks and had to undergo heart and brain surgery. The doctor’s prognosis wasn’t positive and advised us to take her home and enjoy our time with her.  She is now 23 years old and graduated from college!! She never gave up!

 

AA: What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?

JB: No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, your character is defined by how you treat others. Integrity is everything.

 

AA: What is your favorite activity outside of work?

JB: Attending motorcycle rallies with my wife and friends. 

 

AA: Name one book that inspired you professionally.

JB: Combat Medic Vietnam by Craig Roberts 

 

AA: Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?

JB: The ability to cure cancer. 

 

AA: What was the best advice you were ever given?

JB: Never stop going after your dreams. 

 

AA: Do you have a bucket list? What are the top 3 things on it?

JB:

  1. Visit France and Canada and see where my

     ancestors came from.

  1. Ride my bike to Key West, Florida with my wife.
  2. Purchase a 64 Corvette, when I retired.

 

AA: Do you have any pets? What are their names?

JB: I have two dogs
