Congratulations to SMS Standout Karma Lamb. Karma is a billing specialist III and was recognized for customer recognition, quality of work and living the SMS mission. She was tasked with a very large project, the Florida COVID project, and she took on the challenge without hesitation. She had to learn new processes and procedures along with getting the job flowing properly all without a lapse in billing. Way to be a team player, Karma! Great work!
We asked Karma to tell us about her typical day at work.
A.A. Describe a typical day at work.
K.L.No day is ever the same. You may have a checklist of things that you want to accomplish for that day, but you must be prepared not to complete your checklist due to a new task. My typical workday consists of billing customers, payroll, collections, and a little bit of IT.
A.A. What was the best vacation you have ever taken?
K.L. The best vacation ever has to be when my husband and I went to Las Vegas for a week without the kids and with our friends. We stayed in a luxury suite and lived like tomorrow was the last day.
A.A. Describe yourself in one sentence.
K.L. I am a Leo; enthusiastic, passionate and generous.
A.A. What is your favorite thing about your job?
K.L. Being able to interact with others.
A.A. What food could you live on for a month?
K.L. French Fries, but since I am on a “lifestyle change,” I am settling for sweet potato fries.
A.A. Do you have a side hustle, hobby, or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?
K.L. I spend my time bringing my daughter to her dance competition classes during the week and weekends, which gives my son extra time and me to bond. Also, I attend parent HipHop classes at her dance studio.
A.A. How do you stay motivated at work?
K.L. I listen to music, which keeps my spirit up.
A.A. What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?
K.L. Being nominated for Employee of the Year at Safety Management Systems.
A.A.Who would play you in a movie?
K.L.I would play Laura Charles in the Last Dragon. (Favorite movie as a kid.)
A.A. Tell us about a moment that changed your life.
K.L. This would be when I gave birth to my two children.
A.A. What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?
K.L. Never settle; reach for the stars.
A.A. What is your favorite activity outside of work?
K.L. Reading books and watching international shows on Netflix with subtitles.
A.A. Name one book that inspired you professionally.
K.L. Who Moved My Cheese
A.A. Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?
K.L. Shape Shifter. Being able to change form or identity would be amazing. I would never have to diet or workout.
A.A. What was the best advice you were ever given?

K.L. I do not have any pets.
