We spoke to Kevin and asked him to tell us how a day in his line of work looks like.
A.A. Describe a typical day at work.
K.G. I report to the heliport at 2:45 a.m. and begin screening at approximately 3:00 a.m. Check-ins range from 60-200 people, not including pilots and ground support crew.
A.A. What was the best vacation you have ever taken?
K.G. Any vacation that consists of a beach.
A.A. Describe yourself in one sentence.
K.G. I am an overall easy-going person who likes to get a job done while having as much fun at it as possible.
A.A. What is your favorite thing about your job?
K.G. People in general. There is never a dull moment with the variety of personalities we see every day.
A.A. What food could you live on for a month?
K.G. Steak.
A.A. Do you have a side hustle, hobby, or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?
K.G. Golf.
A.A. How do you stay motivated at work?
K.G. It beats the alternative.
A.A. What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?
K.G. No particular moment. I enjoy meeting so many different people from all walks of life.
A.A. Who would play you in a movie?
K.G. If he were alive, Leslie Neilson.
A.A. Tell us about a moment that changed your life.
K.G. When my son joined the Coast Guard and when my daughter received her driver’s license.
A.A. What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?
K.G. Don’t make a job a job; make a job a joy.
A.A. What is your favorite activity outside of work?
K.G. Golf.
