We spoke to Thip and asked him to tell us how a day in his line of work looks like.

A.A. Describe a typical day at work.

T.X. I arrive on site around 2:45 a.m. and begin setting up everything that is needed for screening. A little after 3:00 a.m., we begin checking in heliport personnel. Around 4:30 a.m., passengers arrive, and I check them off of the flight manifest, then screen them before they are allowed to proceed to the lobby.  

 

A.A. What was the best vacation you have ever taken?

T.X. Any trip back to Hawaii.

 

A.A. Describe yourself in one sentence.

T.X. I am a laid back person that likes to joke and laugh while getting work done.

 

A.A.What is your favorite thing about your job?

T.X. Meeting all the different types of personality.  

 

A.A. What food could you live on for a month?

T.X. Fresh beef.

 

A.A. Do you have a side hustle, hobby, or volunteer group that you’re involved in outside of work? What else do you spend your time doing?

T.X. No side hustle.  When I’m off, I enjoy maintaining my garden,  sitting outside with my son watching our Koi fish in the pond and spending time with family.

 

A.A. How do you stay motivated at work?

T.X. My family.

 

A.A. What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?

T.X. Nothing, in particular, that stands out to me.

 

A.A. Who would play you in a movie?

T.X. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. 

 

A.A. Tell us about a moment that changed your life.

T.X. The decision to move to Louisiana in 2011.  

 

A.A. What would be your advice for future [safety professionals]?

T.X. Have fun doing what you do and do what you need to get the job done.

 

A.A. What is your favorite activity outside of work?

T.X. Having a cookout with family and friends.

 

A.A. Name one book that inspired you professionally.

T.X. I don’t have one.

 

A.A. Which talent or superpower would you most like to have and why?

T.X. Too many to list.  

 

A.A. What was the best advice you were ever given?

T.X. “If you want to be good, be the best at being good. If you want to be a bad person, you better be the leader of the gang or don’t do it at all.”  -My father.  

 

A.A. Do you have a bucket list? What are the top 3 things on it?

T.X. I don’t have a bucket list; however, one aspiration is to take my children to the countries of their heritage.

 

A.A. Do you have any pets? What are their names?

T.X. Just a small pond full of Koi and goldfish.

 

A.A. A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

T.X. “Finally, a place with no killer whales!”
