A Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response course, commonly known as HAZWOPER, can arm your employees with the knowledge to properly handle a spill and be in compliance with OSHA 1910.120 regulations. But how do you know which course is the right one?

The level of training you need depends on your role and whether you are general site personnel, emergency response or TSDF (treatment, storage and disposal facility). Not everyone needs the full 40 hours of HAZWOPER. The five courses are broken down based on level of training sequence and certifications needed.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE HAZWOPER

HAZWOPER Awareness (4 hr)

Emergency Response

Who needs it?

  • First Responders
  • HAZMAT Technician
  • HAZMAT Specialist
  • Incident Commander

The HAZWOPER Awareness course is the basic level. It provides training and education to employees who participate, or are expected to participate, in emergency response operations for releases or threats of releases of hazardous substances without regard to hazard location or their hazard response level.

First responders at the awareness level are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and notify the proper authorities of the release. They would take no further action beyond notifying the authorities of the release.
