Lafayette, LA – Safety Management Systems, a division of Acadian Companies, has recently added a grant writer and administrator for the safety and regulatory training center. Madeline Darby has over four years experience as a grants administrator and joined SMS in July. Darby is a graduate of Northeastern State University with a bachelor’s degree in English Education.

The addition of a grant writer on staff means that customers in need of regulatory, safety or medical training can get funding through the Department of Labor. “This is a big step,” says Operations Manager Mark Trahan. “Now, our customers have access to the Incumbent Worker Training Program, a grant that provides funding for employee training.”

The Incumbent Worker Training Program (IWTP) is a partnership between the Louisiana Workforce Commission, business and industry, and local training providers such as SMS. The IWTP is designed to benefit companies by assisting in the skill development of employees and increasing productivity and, ultimately, company growth.

In addition to providing important training for customers, the addition of Darby means SMS can also write, facilitate and oversee the grant application process in securing funding for clients. SMS thinks the move will help customers save money when looking for safety training.
